Double bassist and founder of Orquesta El Arranque, Ignacio Varchausky has built a career deeply rooted in the music, history and evolution of tango.
With El Arranque, he recorded 12 albums and toured more than 300 cities across the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
His journey has taken him to some of the world's most prestigious stages, including Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris and Orchard Hall in Tokyo.
Along the way, he has collaborated with major figures of tango including Leopoldo Federico, Nelly Omar, Gustavo Beytelmann, Julio Pane, Néstor Marconi and Víctor Lavallén.

Performing tango is only part of the story.
Ignacio is also the creator and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce, founded in Buenos Aires in 2000.
For more than 25 years, he has taught and shared the musical language and history of tango with musicians and audiences around the world.
His lectures and classes have reached institutions including the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, CODARTS University in Rotterdam, University of London and Americas Society in New York.
His work brings together performance, knowledge and a profound desire to transmit the culture of tango.

Ignacio Varchausky has participated as a producer in more than 50 albums, collaborating with artists including Leopoldo Federico, Horacio Salgán, Gustavo Beytelmann, Julio Pane, Néstor Marconi and many others.
His work also extends to research and musical communication. His study of orchestral rhythmic designs and interpretative practices of Juan D'Arienzo and Aníbal Troilo was published in The Cambridge Companion to Tango.

In July 2027, Ignacio Varchausky joins the Siracusa International Tango Festival as Musical Director.
His experience as a musician, producer, educator and researcher will be at the heart of a new musical project created especially for the return of SITF.
